Enough with Friday already!

Rebecca Black "Friday" Parodies

Well if you haven't heard the Internet Smash Hit of the Millennium, Rebecca Black's "Friday" then I'm jealous of you... Or you're a Dirty Liar. Critically panned and generally hated the World over this song has amassed a reputation so Legendary that Rebecca Black's name will live on forever. It was just one of those songs that people showed others because of how offensively bad it was.

The Auto-Tune, the Lyrics, the... Everything. Then the parodies came in, and they rolled in and at one point there was more parodies being made then there were actual original music being made. Here is just a sample of the parodies that over-flooded the internet. All thanks to Rebecca Black, if anything I just hate her more because of the Parodies.

What the Hell George?

George Takei
Official Webshite: HERE

Its hard not to love George Takei, I was never really much of a Star Trek fan but even I can appreciate the Awesomeness of Sulu and his soothing sultry voice. Cultural Icon and Gay Activist you often see George spring in and out of the news every now and again. At 74 George still manages to busy at work guest starring in various shows and even still participating in Broadway plays. Gotta admire the man.

However recently, he's done a series of commercial spots for Social Security done as a Star Trek Spoof with Patty Duke. Now living in Australia I have no real interest in it but it really makes you wonder what George Takei won't sell using his Star Trek fame.

Holographic J-Popstar Hatsume Miku

Hatsune Miku
Website: HERE
Promotional Event: HERE
YouTube Channel: HERE

Well if it wasn't painfully obvious before, Japan is at least a good 20 years ahead of everyone in the field of Technology. This is even more obviously now that they've created a completely artificial Popstar in Hatsume Miku.

Hatsune Miku (初音ミク?) is a singing synthesizer application and its female character, developed by Crypton Future Media. It uses Yamaha Corporation's Vocaloid 2 synthesizing technology.

- Wikipedia

So what if she's a Computer program you say. Well besides the fact that the Hatsume Miku Vocaloid software is available worldwide many of the music generated is created from Fans and have even charted in the Japan Billboard charts. Also that they're able to host concerts of Hatsume Miku. How? WITH HOLOGRAMS!?!

Touch the Rainbow

Skittles Touch the Rainbow
Website: HERE

I honestly have no damn idea what kind of drugs the Skittles marketing teams take or what kind of idea those in charge of publicity over at Skittles have but lord help them, they make so interesting / memorable advertisements. These advertisements come so far out of left field you just have no idea what to expect next from the Skittles advertising and promotions team.

Some memorable advertisements in the past as just too ridiculous to describe, here are some examples.

Kartiv2

Kartiv2
YouTube Channel: HERE

The internet is full of a lot of under appreciated and talented people, people that just make internet videos for fun and don't really go out of their way to find internet fame and notoriety. Kartiv2 is one of those special people, she makes cute little music videos and they're so cute and charming its hard not to like her. Plus she's very cute... Which I guess helps.

Well maybe she is trying to make a name for herself (That was very presumptuious of me to say in the first place), it's hard to tell what the internet culture is like over in Israel but its starting to change the way I think about Israeli people in general, I guess thanks to the Internet to you can learn so much about how people of the World aren't so different and that internet culture and music transcends all language and cultural barriers.

5 Seconds

5 Second Films
Website: HERE
YouTube Channel: HERE

5 seconds is all you need to tell as story, at least that's what Brian “Boss Man” Firenzi of 5 Second Films thinks. 2 seconds for an Intro, 5 seconds for the film and 1 second of end titles. Simple rules and has thus been the agenda of 5 Second Films since the Spring of 2005.

Short film makers the world over have submitted and uploaded their 5 second masterpieces onto 5 Second Films database, there are quite a few gems amongst them, admittedly considering the format the selection tend to skew towards Comedy rather then any other genre but then again, its not often you can get across a gripping drama in 5 seconds... Unless you're really talented.

Science isn't about Why, it's about Why Not"

- Cave Johnson

A web-series about making things a little easier in your life, creating mouse gloves and making stain glass windows and water proof sand. Okay on second thought it's not really that easy but at least you can pretend to be a scientist in the safety of your own House.

The Household Hacker releases a video every Tuesday on his Scientific Tuesday Video Blog on Youtube informing you on making something new and exciting, sure it may not be totally practical or useful but at least you'll have something to do rather then spending all your time watching YouTube videos for the next few hours.

The Weekly: A Good Smack in the Mouth

Well this Weekly is on time for a change, mainly due to the fact that I have 4 entry drafts waiting to be published and I don't particularly feel like writing them up at the moment. That and the videos I've found this week have been really good, it's been a very bountiful week for potential viral videos this week so let's dive in.

#10 Nic Cage watches the Wicker Man
I don't need to explain why this is Hilarious, The Wicker Man was just that bad

#9 Improv Everywhere April Fools Joke - Jar Jar on Subway Car
A nice joke from the crew of Improv Everywhere, had they not changed the title or description of the video I would've been fooled. But then again if I saw someone dressed up as Jar Jar Ninks got bashed, I'd say they deserved it.

#8 2011 Toronto Slut Walk
Gotta Love Sluts, The 2011 Slut Walk was a public protest that women should be able to wear whatever they want without being Sexually Vilified. Hell I'm for it, in fact I'll be attending in person Next Year...

You know, to show I care

#7 WonderCon 2011 Cosplay Collection
Probably the only reason to go to a Convention, meet like minded nerds that spend way too much time cosplaying. Then again some of those Girls are pretty damn hot... Even the ones dressed as Batman.

Watch this [Backspace]

BBC Comedy - Backspace
Website: HERE
YouTube Channel: HERE

Due to the rising nature and use of modern hand held and computer technology and internet media BackSpace is light hearted spoof on nerd/geek culture shows. Hosted by British Comedians Stuart Ashens and Karen Hayley as they joke about modern technology and it's sub-culture in society.

This straight forward and no nonsense approach to internet culture is very different to usual exuberant and vibrant personalities that host these types of shows. Even though there are only 6 episodes they manage to cram in a great number of jokes at the expensive of pop culture trends, my favourite being the Social network gag about Mums who go online to brag about their babies.

Making a Killing in Tech Support

The Professionals
Website: HERE
YouTube Channel: HERE

Only on YouTube would you get such a completely original web-series like The Professionals. IT is a very bland boring, run of the mill sort of profession where you deal with a lot of computer illiterate morons that don't how to properly use a right click function on a mouse. (there really are people out there that don't know) But the twist with this group of IT experts is that it also doubles as a Hitman Agency.

The two main characters Tim and Kevin bumble their way through most jobs as they try to screwing too badly, which seems unavoidable in most case for Kevin, Trouble and misfortune seems to follow him at every time as his emotions and impatience usually get the better of him.

if you need a comparison for the series I'd say it's like Leon the Professional meets the Office, it may not be as refined or as well acted as either but hey it's free low budget internet comedy series, you only get what you put in and frankly it's fantastic entertainment never the less.

The Professionals are currently running on into it's Second season and is supported by various big name YouTube personalities like MeekaKitty and Ray William Johnson who guests stars in Episode 11 of Season 1. Be sure it check it out.

We Are All One

Genki Sudo / WORLD ORDER
Website: HERE

That was the Video "Machine Civilisation" Genki Sudo / WORLD ORDER made a week after the Tsunami ravaged Japan to show the Strength of Human Race and remind us that we are stronger as a unit. "We are One"

Genki Sudo made a name for himself as a fearsome and highly unorthodox fighter on the MMA circuit and in the UFC octagon but a quiet retirement was probably the last thing on his mind after the hung up his boots.

Then again this man retired at 28 and probably still has a lot of fight left in him. This guy was a bit of a clown when he fought, danced, used ridiculous stances and moves all in the middle of fights, the man was an entertainer, not to mention his overly elaborate entrances.

A Man and his Parrot

JonTron
Website: HERE
YouTube Channel: HERE

This is a guy I would want to be best friends with, Jon knows how to have fun and has a freaking pet parrot named Jacques. Whilst Jon may seem like a pretty normal guy that plays videos games and posts videos about them there is more to it then that. Some videos he posts are serious and well thought out video game lists, others are sharp and intelligent reviews of games and others are just crazy rants about poor games in particular.

And some are just him screwing around and causing all kinds of chaos by drinking way too much then hitting record on his camera. You can clearly see Jon has a great time making videos and that energy translates to his online audience which is why he already has 20,000+ Subscribers in just 6 months.
